Hi everyone,
Ive recently decided to attempt the GAMSAT test in september of next year (0Cool but that is a different thread! I am comfortable with the fact that I am going to have to work hard to get to the standard to pass the test and also feel confident that I will be able to meet the requirements of the course should I get in.
My main worry however is the financial side of things. Obviously the actual cost of the course over five years is going to amount to a substantial sum of money alone and add to that the cost of living, then it becomes clear that I am going to need a small fortune. Of course I am prepared to work throughout the course but at the same time do not want to jeopardise my studies, which of course needs to be the priority.
Basically I was wondering if anyone is aware of any government help that is available to students who, like me, have already had a pretty impressive amount of financial aid in order to complete the degree that makes it possible to actually apply for GAMSAT! I already owe a good 15k from my first student loan so obviously asking for more might be pushing it!
I am 100% commited to becoming a doctor but the financial side of things is a real concern.
Any info at all would be most appreciated...
Cheers guys!

Work over summer?

Steal it?

Hit a little old lady over the head for it.

Start making MDMA in your garage and pocket a cool $30,000 a week.

To paraphrase - you're lookin for free cash to support your study. Problem is: people who know where free cash is usually don't tell anyone.

Another option: if you are a genius, there might be a scholarship out there somewhere, although, if you were, you'd have found it by now.

My advice: work for a few years, save some money, then start medicine. Or add to your loan. Either way, some of the spending's gotta go!

Is there any parental help?
Reality is that the vast majority of people who get in to Medicine are one person in a team (parents, siblings, friends all help a lot from what I can see)- Its next to impossible to do it on your own- whether it be financially, emotionally, even physically at times. From my own point of view, Med School is stressful enough without having to worry about self funding as well- I think you would be better off trying to get a nest egg together and then going to med school with one less thing to worry about.
