Hey all I know heaps of questions have been asked on GPAs but I need a little clarification.
I have just completed my third year of a four year degree. I have undertaken 20 units and from those units i have received 7 passes and 13 credits.
Considering I have 1 more year left and if I obtain all credits in my future subjects will it be enough to get me over the line for a good enough GPA and what gpa will i be sitting at with those grades?

I no a gpa of 5.5 is credit average but what exactly does this mean like the majority of your units have to be credits and is their room to get passes in any subjects?

Its just for the majority of universities require a minimum gpa of 5.5 for consideration into med so im just curious as to what grades one needs to achieve.

Thanks everyone so much in advance :)

Hi Eli.

Good on you for crunching your numbers....

I think you're right to be nervous about a GPA of 5.5, but that depending on which university you apply to, it may be less of a factor.

Look for universities with GPA hurdles, rather than using it specifically for ranking, and you'll be in with a better chance.

What I would say, is that you BEST bet, is to use this last year of uni to boost your marks as best you can. Its great to aim for credits, but if you're really keen for medicine, you have to be prepared to dig deep, and aim much higher.

A couple of distinctions would make a good deal of difference to your GPA, especially if its a weighted GPA.

Personally, I think that once you make the decision that you want to study medicine, its best to start preparing yourself for medical school straight away. Focus your efforts on boosting your GPA and achieving the best GAMSAT you can.

Its also a good idea to start developing solid study and time managment skills..... they'll serve you well in First year Wink
