Hi, I am new to this forum. I am a second yr science student at Monash. Planning to sit GAMSAT in 2013. Any one wants to study with me; may be 1-2 hours once a week or a fortnight. I have gathered some study material(GAMSAT Gold standard) Smile

hi I did the GAMSAT last year and off 2 months study I got 69 which made me eligible for all Australian medical schools, I have undergraduate degree in chemistry and math and postgrad degree in biochemistry/microbiology. I have just completed refresher courses in biology/physiology and anatomy.

If you want to just chat about study plans or if you want specific help with any area of the test let me know.

Cheers,
John

Hi John,

I'm interested to learn what did your study plan look like.

Hrs per day/week. areas you covered, etc....the timetable essentially.

Would you be able to share that if available.

Cheers,
Stephen

Dear Stephen

I purchased all study materials available from GAMSAT + the study notes and practice exams from MediRed, the practice exams are useful for identifying the level of understanding required for the exam. I then reviewed areas that I did not understand well in chemistry by reading Chang, physics Giancoli, first year uni biology text + biochemistry Lehninger.

For the English comprehension and essay preparation I completed practice exams + I read the New York Review of Books fortnightly cover to cover. I think forcing yourself to read material that is outside your normal reading range is the key - read poetry, read religious texts, read business reviews - the more jargon the better. I also wrote one essay per day for 2 months. First thing in the morning I would spend 30 minutes writing an essay.

I spend 7 weeks studying full time.

The only other advice I would give is to learn how to read very quickly. The practice exams supplied by GAMSAT are old and contain significantly shorter passages than we were required to interpret for the 2012 exam. You need to be able to read complex text quickly.

Good luck,
Cheers,
John.
