i know the forum is for gamsat, but does anyone have experience in mcat test? is it easier or harder and how different is a chance of getting into uni for a student with a good mcat score compared with a gamsat applicant

The answer to your question is quite complicated.

To start with, most Australian medical schools only require an 8/15 on the MCAT (about the 50th percentile) but GAMSAT score requirements (overall score) tends to be around the 75th percentile (plus or minus depending on the institution). However, your MCAT score is in a pool of 10 times more students - many of which are taking premed programs that include a curriculum geared towards the MCAT.

The other issue is that humanities/social sciences is more intense on the GAMSAT (not least for the reason that 50% of your final GAMSAT score is non science as opposed to 1/3 of your numerical MCAT score since most medical schools don't look at the MCAT Writing Sample). Also, if you don't have a science background, then the GAMSAT is still doable with independent study but the MCAT is simply not possible because of a greater reliance in memorizing facts and equations.

Because "every one is different" just go to and take and official AAMC exam (test #3 is free including scores and explanations) and then get one of ACER's 1/2 length test booklets. Do both official tests, check the scores and you will have personalized the answer to your questions.

mcat is actually a bit harder than gamsat for science due to the higher level of knowledge required but it is easier than gamsat in sections 1 and 2
