I've ordered mine so I can let you know my initial impressions when it arrives, won't be much as I won't have really used it yet but can let you know if it seems like a good buy.

I'd also really like to know how people went with the Gold Standard text. There seems to be a lot more about Des or MediPrep but I liked that this was a text book rather than a set of questions. Does anyone have a review?

First of all, I do want to be clear that I have a bias for this textbook but I want to mention one thing: one of the advantages of a textbook is that you don't just have to rely on anonymous forum posts (!!), you can go to the bookstore and see for yourself if it not just lists information but really teaches. Here is a list of bookstores that sell the Gold Standard in Australia, Ireland and the UK: www.gamsat-prep.com/news.php?newsid=1

Good luck!

There are hundreds of practice problems with worked solutions but they are online. They come free with the book.

So far about 100 books have sold on ebay and the feedback has been positive and verifiable.

I got the book...it is really good as a source of information but I was disappointed with the lack of exercises. Also, I seem to be unable to access it online. Do you know how to get around this?
thanks

As mentioned, there are hundreds of exercises with worked solutions that come free with the book and they are online. In fact, each question comes with a forum thread link so if you have more questions about the problem, you click on the link to read what other students have said or to post your query about the problem.

For access, go to gamsat-prep.com, click Register to open a free account. You will be emailed your username/password. Then return to the site, click Register and then you will see CLICK HERE IF YOU OWN THE GOLD STANDARD. Click and follow directions. When you are logged in, you will have free access to 10 hours of teaching videos by clicking Videos in the top Menu. You will also have your Q&A and many other features by clicking on Lessons in the top Menu.

If you don't use the free Q&A and some of the free videos then the content may feel overwhelming at times. I know it sounds cliche but try not to think of it as a regular book, it is multimedia.

Good luck!

Hi all

Just wanted to say that I recently completed the Gamsat-Prep (Gold Standard) 2 day science review course.
It was fantastic!
The Gold Standard package is really helping in my March prep and I would be happy to recommend it.

Good luck everyone!

Quick question: do you think the gold standard is fitting for people with little/no science background?

Quick answer: yes, as long as you take advantage of the free online access card that comes with the book.

Long answer (!!): the book is written for both students with and without science backgrounds: and clearly the "successful" target Section 3 score for these 2 groups may be different. So there are 3 tools to prevent non science students from getting lost in the details: (1) the front page of every chapter lists what is important for the GAMSAT; (2) there are online videos which simplify the information; (3) there are chapter review questions online to maintain focus.

I'm planning to order mine from the Book Depository in the UK but it doesn't say if it is suitable for the Australian GAMSAT. Is there just one book for all the tests or are there different versions for each country? Figured I should ask before I order! Sometimes I find ads on Amazon that state which country...

There is no difference in the content of GAMSAT Australia, GAMSAT Ireland or GAMSAT UK. For this reason you can sit GAMSAT UK in Melbourne in September and use those scores to apply to any GAMSAT requiring medical school in any of the 3 countries mentioned above.

That's a long way to say that the book's content is the same no matter which country sells it. I would just caution you to be sure you are getting the newest edition (published this year) which now contains an Online Access Card (that is new as well as some edits). As long as it says that it comes with the card, then you're fine.

Of course, you have the option to see or purchase the book at many uni bookstores in all three countries:
