Does putting a uni as your second preference actually harm your chances of getting a place in medicine at all, if your first preference was a uni which was very hard to get into?
Lets just say my first pref uni typically had very high entrance standards and my GAMSAT and GPA were only just scraping by, while I had a second pref uni which was relatively easy to get into.
And assuming that if I got an interview with uni A, but had a high probability of being rejected, how badly would that hurt my chances of getting a place in uni B, which I probably would have stood a highly realistic chance of getting into if I had put it as first pref?
I'm doing GAMSAT next year, so I don't have a score I can quote. This is a hypothetical question prompted because I'm already studying hard for the exam and thinking tactically about the best way to get into medicine.
If applying for A significantly hurts my chances of getting into medicine at all, while B was a fairly safe bet, why would I take the chance and put A as my first preference?
Or could I possibly get two interviews and possibly two offers, with my chances of getting into B not being harmed by putting A first? |
