Hi all,

I recently recieved my 2008 GAMSAT results and am going to apply for med at UQ to begin in 2010. I am wondering what the past UQ SOM cut-offs are as I do not want to sit the GAMSAT again next year just on the off-chance I don't get in using this year's results (costs way too much). Does anyone know past UQ SOM GAMSAT cut-off scores?
I got overall 68, and individually 72, 62 and 67. Does anyone have any idea whether this will get me in?

Thanks
Dan

First of all, congratulations. A 68 is brilliant. Second, I'm surprised you're worried! The past UQ cutoffs have ranged from 59-62 so even if it goes up because of the scrapped interviews I would say your score is definately safe. Stop stressing, start celebrating.

And so it begins....

I think its fair to say that if you got a GAMSAT over 65, you're a bloody good chance anywhere.... and that your chances now rest in your hands (i.e. the interview)

Good luck.

I look forward to hearing all about your university choices and strategies Wink

hey people...got my gamsat result today i got 56 (58, 66, 51). i didnt do any prep, i just thought id give it a crack and i assumed i had left it too late as i regiestered on the last day...other than having a quick read just turned up on the day and hoped to fluke it...

-so with 56 and a GPA of about 5.8 should i even bother applying??
-also do my preferences matter? i.e should i select particular uni's in order to have a better chance, like not bothering with USYD because its probably the most sought after?
-and does applying for both med and dentistry give me less of a chance because it looks as though i dont really have an idea and just (once again) hedging my bets

thanks

congrats to the people that went well, i kinda regret not putting in more effort to be honest but oh well

Hey.

I think you should do some reading.... and a lot af thinking about what you want, and how far you're prepared to go to get it. Research the different programs, read their websites, and make some phone calls.

Its a big deal to apply for Medicine, and you really need to decide these things for yourself.

That being said, If you decide to apply this year, If I were you, I would only apply to universities that I would ACTUALLY study at..... no point applying at flinders if you're not 100% prepared to move to Adelaide.

hi thanks for the response... the thing i was worried about was whether the 62 i got in one of the sections might be below a cut-off... is that how it works? do they look at each section individually and if one of the sections doesnt make the cut-off is that it - you dont get in? or am i being paranoid and the cut-off wont be above 62?

To be brutally honest, UQ's cutoff is likely to increase this year because there are no interviews. 62 may not be enough.

so wen everyone talks about the cut-off being a single number, they mean that it is the cut-off for each section and the cut-off for the overall?

it is not appropriate question to ask if you can get UQ and your gamsat mark is 68. Everybody knows that you can get in with that mark. I don't want to say, but it is such a silly question!!! Laughing

Hi all,

For my gamsat 2008 i got a score of 59. Would that be good enough for an international student?
Need advice.

Thanks.

more than advice, you need to do some research.

What is your GPA? that makes all the difference with a 59. If its adequately high, then some schools are a chance.

smhappy, I disagree with your assessment that the question was 'silly'. There are absolutely no guarantee's this year that a 68 will get a person in UQ. As has been mentioned previously, UQ is predicted to be extremely popular amongst high-scoring GAMSATTERs who want to avoid traumatic interview processes.

I know of two people who interviewed at unimelb last year and both got rejected despite GAMSAT's in the low 70's and high GPA's to boot (6.9). Both these candidates are applying to UQ, and its logical that the cut-off will go up quite a bit.

Hi,

I don't have a GPA as my Uni does not calculate scored by GPA system. I got a 2nd lower honours science degree.
Thus, i would like to find out if gamsat score of 59 would have a chance in getting a place in UQ.

Thanks.
